The Aurora Flight Sciences X-65 is a DARPA-funded technology demonstrator built under the CRANE (Control of Revolutionary Aircraft with Novel Effectors) programme, designed to validate active flow control as a replacement for conventional aerodynamic control surfaces. It is a tailless, unmanned combat aircraft demonstrator.

History
Awarded by DARPA to Aurora Flight Sciences (a Boeing subsidiary) around 2021, the X-65 CRANE programme aims to prove that active flow control jets embedded in the airframe can provide sufficient control authority without ailerons, elevators, or rudders. Ground testing began in 2023 with first flight targeted for 2024–2025, representing a potentially transformative approach to stealth aircraft design.
Variants
A single demonstrator airframe has been built; the programme is a research effort with no production variant planned.
