Fieseler Fi 256

The Fieseler Fi 256 was a German five-seat liaison and communications aircraft developed as an enlarged derivative of the famous Fieseler Fi 156 Storch, retaining the high-wing STOL formula with an enclosed cabin for additional passengers.

Closely resembles the Fieseler Storch but is noticeably larger with a wider cabin accommodating four passengers; the high-lift wing with pronounced slats and flaps and strut-braced high wing are characteristic.

History
Designed to build on the success of the Storch, the Fi 256 first flew in 1941 and offered improved passenger capacity while retaining the parent type's exceptional short-field performance. However, the Fi 156 remained the primary liaison type and the Fi 256 was produced in very limited numbers.
Variants
Only a prototype and a small production batch were completed; no significant variants are recorded.

Operated by the Luftwaffe in small numbers as a VIP liaison and communication aircraft; not known to have been used extensively in the field.
