WEFT is AircraftIQ's four-point recognition method — how it works.
Spot it by:
- High-wing single-seat glider
- Wings whose angle of attack could be adjusted independently
- Wingspan of 12.2 m on a fuselage 5.3 m long
A high-wing glider of 12.2 m span with a Gottingen 441 aerofoil and wings that pivot to change incidence.
Specifications
- The F.V.D. Doris has a length of 5.3 m (17 ft).
- It has a wingspan of 12.2 m (40 ft).
- Typical crew: 1.
Figures are for the representative variant described above; marks differ. See how AircraftIQ sources figures.
History
It was designed by Horst Muttray and Reinhold Seiferth and built by the Flugtechnischer Verein Dresden. It was unusual in having wings that could adjust their angles of attack independently.
Variants
Only one example was ever built.
Where you'll see it
The independent wing adjustment was intended to increase the energy gained from gusts of wind. Its glide ratio was about 14.5.
