The General Atomics RQ-1/MQ-1 Predator is an American unmanned aerial vehicle designed for long-endurance reconnaissance and armed surveillance, becoming the definitive MALE drone of the 2000s. Armed Predators firing AGM-114 Hellfire missiles were used extensively in US counter-terrorism operations.

History

First flying in 1994, the Predator entered US Air Force service in 1995 and was used extensively over Bosnia, Kosovo, Afghanistan, and Iraq. The MQ-1 variant added Hellfire missile capability from 2001, fundamentally changing the nature of remotely-piloted warfare.
