The Hanriot HD.20 was a French single-seat shipboard fighter prototype completed in 1923. Only one was built.
Recognition (WEFT)
| W — Wings | Mid-mounted, straight |
|---|---|
| E — Engines | 1 × piston, nose-mounted |
| F — Fuselage | 8.1 m fuselage |
| T — Tail | Conventional |
WEFT is AircraftIQ's four-point recognition method — how it works.
Spot it by:
- All-metal two-bay biplane with significant stagger and a lower wing of greater span
- Pilot in an open cockpit with cut-outs in both wings for visibility
- Large inflatable buoyancy airbag between the undercarriage legs
An all-metal two-bay biplane with outward-leaning parallel interplane struts and short-span ailerons on the upper wing only. The braced tailplane sits on top of the fuselage under a small curved fin.
Specifications
- The Hanriot HD.20 has a length of 8.1 m (27 ft).
- It has a wingspan of 12.5 m (41 ft).
- Its maximum speed is 205 km/h (127 mph).
- Typical crew: 1.

History
The HD.20 first flew in 1923 and flight testing explored its higher-altitude performance, but tests and development were then ended.
Variants
Only one HD.20 was built, powered by a Hispano-Suiza 8Fb water-cooled upright V-8 engine.
Where you'll see it
The aircraft remained a prototype and did not enter service. A large Busteed inflatable buoyancy airbag was fitted between the undercarriage legs for emergency landings at sea.
