Recognition (WEFT)
| W — Wings | Low-mounted, straight |
|---|---|
| E — Engines | 1 × piston, nose-mounted |
| F — Fuselage | Tandem two-seat layout with a narrow fuselage |
| T — Tail | Conventional |
WEFT is AircraftIQ's four-point recognition method — how it works.
Spot it by:
- Low-wing monoplane braced by a pair of V-shaped struts on each side
- Tandem two-seat layout with a narrow fuselage
- Wings fold flat along the sides of the fuselage
The V-shaped strut pairs meet at a single attachment point on each side of the upper fuselage. A 75 hp Siemens engine powered it, and the wings could be folded flat for transport or storage.
Specifications
- The Heinkel HE 18 has a length of 7.2 m (24 ft).
- It has a wingspan of 11.1 m (36 ft).
- Its maximum speed is 150 km/h (93 mph).
- Typical crew: 1.

History
It was a development of the HE 3 with a narrower fuselage and tandem rather than side-by-side seating. Its wings were braced by a pair of struts on each side in a V-shape, where the HE 3 had cantilever wings.
Variants
A choice of wheeled or float undercarriage was available, and a roll-bar could be fitted to protect the occupants in a roll-over on the ground.
Where you'll see it
It was built as a sports aircraft carrying a pilot and one passenger.
