History
It was originally designed by Radu Manicatide and fine-tuned by the URMV-3 works of Industria Aeronautica Romana. It was a three-seat low-wing monoplane of mixed construction, with blind-flying instrumentation and radios.
Variants
The IAR-814 designation covered the two prototype trainer and light transport aircraft, and the MR-2 was the production aircraft, of which eight were built.
Where you'll see it
It was designed primarily as a trainer but could also serve as a transport. On 14-15 October 1961 it set a long-distance record in FAI class C-1d, flying 4,462.87 km in 20 hours 41 minutes.
