History
First flown in December 1991, the K-1200 revived Kaman's signature synchropter layout, using two intermeshing two-blade rotors that cancel torque and need no tail rotor. Its narrow fuselage gives the pilot excellent downward visibility for precision sling-load operations.
Variants
Beyond the baseline logging and utility K-MAX, Kaman and Lockheed Martin developed an unmanned cargo version that flew resupply missions for the US Marine Corps in Afghanistan.
Where you'll see it
Widely used for logging, powerline construction and firefighting worldwide, K-MAX aircraft have supported fire-season contracts across Europe. The type has no significant UK military role but underpins specialist commercial lift work.
