History

The first Mini-MAX flew in 1984; its name reflects the aim of a minimum-cost aircraft needing minimum space, time and skill. It was designed by Wayne Ison and first produced by TEAM Incorporated of Bradyville, Tennessee, and production later passed to Ison Aircraft, JDT Mini-MAX, Team Mini-Max LLC and, in 2025, Mini-Max USA.

Variants

Models include the 1030 MAX-103, 1100R Mini-MAX, 1200Z and 1300Z Z-MAX, 1500R and 1600R Sport, 1550V V-MAX and 1650R EROS, differing mainly in engine and cockpit. A high-winged development, the Hi-MAX, shares many parts. The figures given here are for the 1650R EROS.

Where you'll see it

The original models were meant to meet the US FAR 103 ultralight limit of 254 lb empty weight, and kits remain in production.
