History
The NiD 62 series entered service with the French air arm in 1928 as a replacement for WWI-era types. The NiD 622 was an improved version with a more powerful Gnome-Rhône Jupiter VI engine and minor airframe refinements. It was built in considerable numbers — over 320 — and remained France's front-line fighter until superseded by the Dewoitine D.500 series in the mid-1930s.
Variants
NiD 62 (baseline); NiD 622 (production standard with Jupiter VI); NiD 629 (export variant with different engine).
Where you'll see it
Armée de l'Air 1929–1935, equipping most metropolitan pursuit groupes during that period. Exported in small numbers. A few remained in second-line use into the late 1930s.
