The Sablatnig C.III was a German two-seat parasol-monoplane reconnaissance aircraft that appeared at the very end of World War I, powered by the high-altitude Maybach Mb.IVa engine. It represented an advanced monoplane concept at a time when most military aircraft were biplanes.

Identified by its high-set parasol wing mounted on struts well above the fuselage, narrow fuselage cross-section, and the characteristic large Maybach engine installation. The monoplane configuration was unusual for a German military type in 1918–19.

History
Developed by Sablatnig Flugzeugbau in Berlin, the C.III was a military reconnaissance type rather than the postal aircraft sometimes confused with it. The parasol configuration gave the crew excellent forward and downward visibility for observation duties. The aircraft appeared too late to see combat, and German aviation was severely curtailed by the Versailles Treaty soon after.
Variants
The separate Sablatnig P.III was a distinct postal aircraft design; the C.III itself had no significant production variants.
