The Su-25UTG is a navalized two-seat trainer variant of the Su-25UB, fitted with an arrester hook for carrier landing training aboard Soviet and Russian aircraft carriers.

History

Developed in the late 1980s to train naval aviators for operations from the Admiral Kuznetsov, the Su-25UTG retained the attack capability of the baseline Su-25 while adding naval deck-landing equipment. It first flew in 1990 and a small number were built. The type trained pilots in ski-jump take-off and arrested-landing techniques in preparation for Su-33 carrier operations.

Variants

The Su-25UTG is closely related to the Su-25UBP (another naval two-seater); both derive from the Su-25UB dual-seat trainer.
