The Fairchild XC-120 Packplane was an experimental USAF transport that featured a detachable cargo pod slung below the fuselage, intended to speed up loading and unloading operations. It was derived from the C-119 Flying Boxcar.

History
Only one prototype was built, first flying in 1950. The detachable pod concept promised rapid turnaround on the ground by swapping pre-loaded containers, but the complexity and structural challenges prevented it from advancing beyond the prototype stage.
Variants
A single XC-120 prototype was produced, with no production variants following. The concept influenced later container-transport studies but was not pursued further.
