History
The Yak-54 first flew in 1993 and entered limited production at the Saratov Aviation Plant. It was designed to give advanced aerobatic pilots a high-performance two-seat platform equivalent in capability to the single-seat Yak-55M.
Variants
The Yak-54 is closely related to the Yak-55 series; it shares the same aerobatic fuselage concept but adds a second tandem seat. Some aircraft have been fitted with different engine variants.
Where you'll see it
Operated by Russian aerobatic display teams and privately by competition pilots in Russia and several other countries; the type is relatively rare outside the former Soviet sphere.
