The Eurofighter Typhoon is a twin-engine canard-delta multirole fighter developed jointly by the UK, Germany, Italy, and Spain, first flying in 1994 and entering service in 2003. The F-16 first flew in January 1974 and entered service in 1978 — nearly 25 years before the Typhoon reached operational status in 2003. This generational gap means the Typhoon was designed with post-Cold War lessons embedded from the outset: relaxed-stability aerodynamics requiring fly-by-wire, HOTAS (hands-on-throttle-and-stick), digital avionics buses, and from the beginning a specification for supercruise that the F-16 was never designed to meet.
