The Sukhoi Su-35 (NATO: Flanker-E) is a single-seat, twin-engine supermaneuvrable multirole fighter derived from the Su-27 Flanker family, entering Russian service in 2014. Su-35 operators: Russia (Russian Aerospace Forces, approximately 100+ in service, losses reported in Ukraine), China (PLAAF, 24 Su-35SKs delivered 2016-2018). Iran received a reported agreement for Su-35 purchase (announced 2022, deliveries uncertain as of 2024). No other current operators. The F-15 first flew in July 1972 and entered service in 1976 — over 50 years of continuous service and upgrade. The Su-35 as a distinct production variant first flew in 2008 and entered service in 2014, though it descends from the Su-27 (first flight 1977). The Su-35 therefore benefits from 35 years of Su-27 family development — structural improvements, engine maturation, and combat experience from Chechnya, Syria, and Ukraine. The F-15's timeline matters because each upgrade generation (F-15C, F-15E Strike Eagle, F-15SA, F-15EX) has progressively improved avionics, radar, and weapons far beyond the original design.
