History
First flown in 1987, the -300 attracted fewer orders than the -200 because the unchanged wing was increasingly marginal for the heavier airframe; it was superseded by the Avro RJ100.
Variants
The Avro RJ100 is the updated -300 equivalent with AlliedSignal LF507 engines and EFIS cockpit, and sold more successfully.

Operated by Ansett New Zealand, Air Wisconsin, and several European carriers; the RJ100 found wider acceptance.
