WEFT is AircraftIQ's four-point recognition method — how it works.
Spot it by:
- Russian airborne early warning and control aircraft based on Il-76 platform
- Large rotating saucer-shaped radar rotodome above fuselage
- Four turboprop engines — actually turbofans on Il-76 base
Identical in airframe to the Il-76 transport, distinguished by the large disc-shaped rotodome mounted on struts above the rear fuselage — the definitive recognition feature of this AEW&C platform.

History
Development began in the 2000s and the A-100 Premier first flew in 2017. It features a new active electronically scanned array radar in a rotodome above the fuselage and significantly upgraded electronics compared to its predecessor. The programme aims to replace the ageing A-50 fleet.
Variants
The A-100 Premier is the prototype designation; the production version is intended as the A-100.
Where you'll see it
The A-100 is in developmental and evaluation service with the Russian Aerospace Forces, with full operational service expected in the mid-2020s.
