The Boom Overture is an American supersonic airliner under development by Boom Technology, designed to carry 64–80 passengers at Mach 1.7 using four non-afterburning Symphony turbofan engines. Its tailless cranked-delta configuration draws on decades of supersonic aerodynamic research to achieve efficient cruise without the fuel penalty of reheat.

Spot it by:

A very long slender supersonic airliner with a sharply pointed nose, four underwing turbofan nacelles grouped in pairs, and no separate tail surfaces. The cranked ogival delta wing with elevon control surfaces distinguishes it from subsonic widebody jets.

History

Boom Technology was founded in 2014 with the goal of making supersonic passenger travel commercially viable, positioning the Overture as the first new supersonic airliner since Concorde's retirement in 2003. The XB-1 technology demonstrator validated key aerodynamic principles, and engine development and certification activities continued through the mid-2020s targeting first flight in 2026 and service entry around 2029. Multiple airlines have placed conditional orders.
