The C-212 Aviocar Series 400 is the final Spanish-built generation of CASA's rugged high-wing STOL utility transport, carrying up to 26 passengers or light cargo.

The most obvious cue is the fixed, non-retractable tricycle undercarriage on a boxy high-wing fuselage. A rear cargo ramp aids loading. The Series 400 adds winglets and relocates avionics to a lengthened nose baggage bay.

History

The Aviocar type first flew in 1971, and the Series 400 made its debut in 1997. The new variant added a glass cockpit, uprated engines, winglets and higher payload. It was the last version produced in Spain before manufacture moved abroad.

Variants

The line ran through Series 100, 200, 300 and 400, culminating in the Indonesian-built NC212i. The Series 400 was discontinued around 2014. Special-mission and maritime configurations were offered throughout the family.

Where you'll see it

The Aviocar has served many air arms for light tactical transport, paradropping and maritime patrol, though it is not a UK type. Production continued in Indonesia after the Spanish line closed. The Series 400 saw modest sales as a modernised final standard.
