Recognition (WEFT)
| W — Wings | High-mounted, tapered |
|---|---|
| E — Engines | 1 × none, embedded-mounted |
| F — Fuselage | 7.7 m fuselage |
| T — Tail | Conventional |
WEFT is AircraftIQ's four-point recognition method — how it works.
Spot it by:
- Gull wing with a rectangular inner section with dihedral and tapered outer panels ending in elliptical tips
- Tandem two seats, with the rear cockpit under the wing and accessed through a trap door in the wing
- Single faired lift struts each side and a strongly tapered all-moving tailplane
Look for a long-span gull-wing glider with a front cockpit ahead of the wing leading edge under a rear-hinged canopy, a rear cockpit with side windows, and a large rounded rudder reaching down to the keel.
Specifications
- The CAT 28BP has a length of 7.7 m (25 ft).
- It has a wingspan of 18.2 m (60 ft).
- Typical crew: 2.

History
CAT built the single-seat Dittmar Condor II as the CAT 28, which flew in 1936. At Adriano Mantelli's suggestion Ettore Cattaneo designed a two-seat version with a second seat in tandem under the wing, and the CAT 28BP first flew in 1938 piloted by Mantelli.
Variants
It was intended for record breaking, aerobatics and training. Its span was 500 mm greater than the CAT 28, and the overall length and fuselage were otherwise unchanged.
Where you'll see it
It held the Italian national distance record for many years and competed with success in national competitions.
