Launched to meet US scope-clause seating limits, it first flew in 2000 with a fuselage stretch over the ERJ-135 while keeping the same wing and engines. It was aimed squarely at American regional feeders.
Variants
Offered chiefly in standard and long-range fuel configurations, the ERJ-140 is otherwise near-identical to its stablemates and shares maintenance commonality across the family.
Where you'll see it
It served mostly with US regional airlines under major-carrier brands and had limited European presence; it did not enter UK military use.
