History

As the G.46 matured in service, Fiat introduced the third-series sub-variants with improved powerplants and updated avionics to keep pace with advancing jet-trainer requirements. The 3B maintained the same basic airframe as the 1B while offering instructors and students better performance margins during aerobatic and instrument training.

Variants

The 3-series G.46 variants used a more powerful Alfa Romeo or equivalent engine compared to the 1-series; the 3A and 3B differed in minor equipment and market specification.
