History
First flown in 1950 and entering US Navy service shortly after, the HTK-1 was used to train naval aviators in basic helicopter operations. Kaman's intermeshing rotor system, patented by Charles Kaman, eliminated the need for a tail rotor by using two counter-rotating rotors that mesh without touching.
Variants
The HTK-1 was Kaman's first production helicopter; it led directly to the more capable HOK-1 and HUK-1 rescue and utility variants, and ultimately to the famous HH-43 Huskie.
