The IAR 22 was a Romanian single-seat biplane fighter of the mid-1930s, developed by Industria Aeronautică Română as part of Romania's interwar effort to build an indigenous military aviation capability. Its 193 km/h top speed reflected the transitional era between biplane and monoplane fighters.

History
IAR produced a series of biplane fighters in the 1930s, culminating in the IAR 80 monoplane which served in the Second World War. The IAR 22 was an earlier step in this development, influenced by contemporary European biplane fighter design practice. Romanian aviation industry grew considerably during the 1930s with both indigenous and licensed types.
