The IAR 95 was an ambitious Romanian supersonic fighter project developed by Industria Aeronautică Română during the 1980s, intended to provide Romania with a domestically produced combat aircraft to reduce dependence on Soviet types.

History
Development began in the 1970s under Nicolae Ceaușescu's policy of Romanian industrial independence. The IAR 95 was to be powered by a licence-built engine and armed with Romanian weapons. Despite significant investment, the programme encountered persistent technical and resource difficulties and no flyable prototype was completed before the 1989 revolution ended the project.
Variants
No variant flew; the programme remained at prototype construction stage.
