I.T.S. Lwow · Poland · first flew 1936 · light aircraft
The ITS-8 was a Polish twin-boom motor glider flown in 1936.
Recognition (WEFT)
| W — Wings | High-mounted, tapered |
|---|---|
| E — Engines | 1 × piston, wing-mounted |
| F — Fuselage | 6.4 m fuselage |
| T — Tail | Twin fin |
WEFT is AircraftIQ's four-point recognition method — how it works.
Spot it by:
- Twin-boom layout with a pusher engine largely buried in the wing
- Pilot in a drop-shaped nacelle under the wing leading edge
- Rectangular centre section braced by pairs of parallel steel struts
A wooden high-wing motor glider whose outer wing panels have swept leading edges and unswept trailing edges.
Specifications
- The ITS-8 has a length of 6.4 m (21 ft).
- It has a wingspan of 13.6 m (45 ft).
- Its maximum speed is 120 km/h (75 mph).
- Typical crew: 1.

History
It was designed at the Institute of Gliding Techniques at Lwow University to FAI specifications. It was first flown as a glider, towed by a car, in late August 1936; powered flights with a 13 kW Kroeber engine began in October.
Variants
The planned ITS-8W had longer outer wings of 14.2 m span, a higher-speed centre-section aerofoil and a more powerful engine.
Where you'll see it
Two prototypes were completed, but the German invasion of Poland in 1939 prevented production.
