The Junkers J 7 was a pioneering all-metal single-seat fighter of World War I, significant as one of the first practical low-wing cantilever monoplanes and a forerunner of the legendary Junkers D.I.

History
Hugo Junkers developed the J 7 in 1917 as part of his programme to prove that all-metal cantilever construction could produce a viable combat aircraft. The J 7 flew in 1917 and its technology was refined into the J 9 (production designation Junkers D.I) which entered limited service before the armistice.
Variants
The J 7 was a development prototype; it led directly to the J 9/D.I production fighter.

The J 7 itself was a prototype and did not enter operational service; its successor the D.I saw very limited frontline use in 1918.
