History

Martin Stucki began the design in 2002 and formed Marenco Swisshelicopter in 2007 to build it, first as the SH09. The first prototype flew on 2 October 2014, and Leonardo acquired Kopter in 2020 and rebranded the helicopter AW09 in 2021.

Variants

It was formerly the Marenco SKYe SH09 and the Kopter SH09. A twin-engine version has been discussed but the single-engine aircraft is the one built.

Where you'll see it

Three prototypes had flown by 2018, with further pre-series aircraft assigned to certification. It is a development aircraft aimed at the light single-turbine market, with Safran Arriel 2K power.
