The Leading Systems Amber was a pioneering American medium-altitude long-endurance UAV of the mid-1980s whose design directly led to the General Atomics GNAT and ultimately the famous MQ-1 Predator.

Slender mid-wing fuselage with a pusher piston engine at the rear and an inverted-V tail — the basic planform later refined into the unmistakable Predator silhouette. The Amber is smaller than the Predator with a less pronounced sensor turret nose.

History
Abraham Karem, the Israeli-American engineer who founded Leading Systems, designed the Amber as an endurance demonstration vehicle for DARPA in the mid-1980s. It proved the viability of long-endurance propeller-driven UAV operations using composite structures and a pusher propeller. When Leading Systems ran into financial difficulties, General Atomics acquired the programme and Karem's team, leading directly to the GNAT-750 and then the Predator.
Variants
The Amber led to the GNAT-750 at General Atomics; a tilt-rotor variant called the Condor was proposed but not developed.
Where you'll see it
Operated as a DARPA research vehicle in the late 1980s; never entered US military service in its own right but its lineage is foundational to modern MALE UAV operations.
