The MB-339CD (Combat/Digital) is an advanced lead-in fighter trainer variant of the MB-339 family, incorporating a fully digital glass cockpit, MIL-STD-1553B databus, and a wide-angle HUD to prepare student pilots for front-line fast-jet operations.

Externally very similar to other MB-339 variants. The wide-angle HUD in the front cockpit is the most reliable distinguishing feature visible from the ground. The lack of prominent blade antennas under the nose distinguishes it from earlier A-standard aircraft.

History
Aermacchi developed the CD variant in the mid-1990s to meet demands for a more capable weapons system trainer as front-line aircraft became increasingly software-intensive. The prototype first flew in 1996 and the type entered service with the UAE Air Force as the MB-339NAT. New Zealand ordered the MB-339CB but later acquired CD-standard airframes. The Italian Air Force evaluated the type as a replacement for older MB-339As.
Variants
The MB-339CD shares its airframe with the MB-339C but features an entirely new avionics suite. Export sub-variants include the MB-339NAT for the UAE and configuration tailored for New Zealand's requirements.
Where you'll see it
The UAE Air Force has been the principal operator, using the MB-339NAT designation. New Zealand's RNZAF also operated updated MB-339C/CD aircraft as advanced jet trainers before retirement. Italy retained the MB-339A/PAN for domestic training.
