The MiG-25RU is the dual-control trainer variant based on the MiG-25R reconnaissance airframe, allowing conversion training for pilots assigned to photo-reconnaissance regiments.

History
Like the MiG-25PU interceptor trainer, the RU was needed to familiarise pilots with the demanding operating procedures of Mach 2.5+ flight before they flew operational solo sorties. The second cockpit was inserted in the reconnaissance nose section, retaining some sensor capability. Production numbers were small but the type served alongside RU-equipped units.
