History

It was developed as a top-of-the-line model to supplement the M20. The first prototype flew on 24 September 1964 and the type was certified on 26 September 1966. Mooney lost a trademark suit brought by Cavalier Aircraft and renamed the aircraft the "Mark 22".

Variants

There was a single production model, the M22. Only 36 aircraft were completed before the line closed in 1970, having been produced and sold at a loss.

Where you'll see it

It was flown by private and commercial owners in several countries, including the United States and Australia. In June 1967 the second production aircraft flew non-stop from New York to the Paris Air Show in 13 hours 10 minutes, carrying an extra fuel tank.
