The N2S-5 was the final US Navy production variant of the Stearman Model 75 Kaydet, powered by the Continental R-670-5 engine and completing the Navy's wartime Kaydet procurement.

History

Ordered in the closing stages of the major Kaydet production run, the N2S-5 differed from earlier marks mainly in engine and equipment details; it rounded out a Navy Kaydet fleet that trained tens of thousands of naval aviators through primary flight instruction.

Variants

The N2S-5 concluded the US Navy's N2S designations; corresponding Army Air Forces variants were the PT-13, PT-17, and PT-18, all sharing the same airframe.

Served at Navy primary training stations through the end of World War II; post-war surplus Kaydets of all marks became a fixture on the civil airshow and agricultural aviation scenes.
