History
The N2S-2 was ordered to broaden the supply base for Stearman trainers, using the Continental W-670 engine in place of the Lycoming R-680 of the N2S-1; engine availability drove many of the variant distinctions within the N2S series.
Variants
Sandwiched between the N2S-1 and N2S-3 in the production sequence; the N2S-3 became the most numerous Navy variant, and the overall Kaydet family exceeded ten thousand aircraft.
