Radab Windex
Radab · Sweden · first flew 1985 · light aircraft
The Radab Windex is a family of Swedish single-seat aerobatic gliders and motor gliders for amateur construction.
Recognition (WEFT)
| W — Wings | High-mounted, tapered |
|---|---|
| E — Engines | 1 × piston, tail-mounted |
| F — Fuselage | 4.92 m fuselage |
| T — Tail | T-tail |
WEFT is AircraftIQ's four-point recognition method — how it works.
Spot it by:
- Small high-wing motor glider with a semi-tapered wing
- Engine mounted on the vertical stabiliser
- T-tail on the production 1200 versions
It is built from carbon fibre and fibreglass, is stressed for plus 9 and minus 6 g, and has upper-surface air brakes and flaps.
Specifications
- The Radab Windex has a length of 4.92 m (16 ft).
- It has a wingspan of 12.1 m (40 ft).
- Its maximum speed is 270 km/h (168 mph).
- Typical crew: 1.

History
The project began in 1980 as a hobby design by Sven-Olof Ridder and Harald Unden. The first unpowered model 1100 flew in 1985, and a factory fire in 1986 destroyed all the fibreglass moulds.
Variants
The 1100 was the prototype motor-glider, the 1200 was the production version with a T-tail and longer wings, and the 1200 C had a 15 kW Konig two-stroke engine on the vertical stabiliser.
Where you'll see it
The prototype flew at the 1991 World Glider Aerobatic Championships in Poland and won two bronze medals. In 2011 four motor gliders and one glider were registered in the United States.
