History

Schlitter designed the S-9 in 1986 as an inexpensive aerobatic aircraft. Production ended in 2006 as part of a reorganisation of the Rans line, and the type was reintroduced around 2009.

Variants

The basic engine is the 50 hp Rotax 503, with the 64 hp Rotax 582 and 100 hp Hirth 3701 as options. The two-seat S-10 Sakota aerobatic aircraft was later developed from the S-9.

Where you'll see it

215 S-9s had been built and flown by December 2011. They are registered in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and several European countries.
