Recognition (WEFT)
| W — Wings | High-mounted, tapered |
|---|---|
| E — Engines | 1 × none, embedded-mounted |
| F — Fuselage | 6 m fuselage |
| T — Tail | Conventional |
WEFT is AircraftIQ's four-point recognition method — how it works.
Spot it by:
- Shoulder-wing glider with a straight tapered, square-tipped wing
- Long cockpit centred on the wing leading edge under a one-piece teardrop canopy
- Retractable monowheel with a landing skid ahead of it
Look for a wood and fabric glider with a shoulder-mounted wing, an almost circular fuselage cross-section and a tailplane set slightly above the fuselage on a dorsal fin fillet.
Specifications
- The Rotondi R-2 Tobia has a length of 6 m (20 ft).
- It has a wingspan of 13.6 m (45 ft).
- Typical crew: 1.
Figures are for the representative variant described above; marks differ. See how AircraftIQ sources figures.
History
Gianfranco Rotondi designed it as the basis of a four-year building project for students of the aeronautical division of the G. Feltrinelli Technical Institute of Milan, begun in 1958.
Variants
Only one Tobia was built, so there were no other versions.
Where you'll see it
Its career ended after wing fitting damage in a heavy landing.
