History

Designed as a high-performance interceptor and heavy fighter, the SM.92 flew in 1943 but Italy's armistice that year effectively ended its development. Only prototypes were completed and it never entered production service. The design reflected Italian interest in twin-boom configurations seen elsewhere during the war.
