History
The J-11 began in the 1990s as licence-assembled Su-27SKs, first flying in China in 1998, before Shenyang developed indigenous versions with Chinese avionics, radar and engines after the original agreement lapsed.
Variants
Versions include the assembled J-11, the indigenised J-11B, the two-seat J-11BS and the navalised J-15 derivative.
Where you'll see it
A front-line PLA Air Force and Naval Air Force type with no Western basing; it has not been seen in UK skies and is observed only overseas.
