The Boeing F-15E Strike Eagle is a two-seat, all-weather strike derivative of the F-15 air-superiority fighter, combining long-range precision attack with potent air-to-air capability.

History

McDonnell Douglas developed the Strike Eagle from the F-15D, first flying in 1986 with a rear weapon systems officer, conformal fuel tanks and a ground-attack radar and targeting suite. Boeing continues to build advanced export and updated versions.

Variants

Export models include the F-15I, F-15K, F-15SG, F-15SA and the latest F-15EX Eagle II. All share the twin-fin, twin-engine strike airframe.

Where you'll see it

The RAF does not operate the F-15E, but the type has flown from UK bases with the US Air Force, notably the 48th Fighter Wing at RAF Lakenheath. It has been a frequent partner in coalition operations alongside British forces.
