History
Diamond developed the DA50 as a stretch of its DA40 platform, certifying a version powered by a Continental TSIO-550 gasoline engine. An earlier diesel-engine prototype flew around 2002. The DA50 RG entered production in the 2010s and targets the high-end single-engine market.

The DA50 RG (retractable gear) is the primary production variant; earlier concepts explored diesel powerplants.
