The IAR 823 is a Romanian two-seat low-wing monoplane trainer developed by Industria Aeronautică Română in the early 1970s, used to train Romanian Air Force pilots in the transition between basic and jet training.

History
Designed and developed in Romania during the early 1970s, the IAR 823 was produced in modest numbers for the Romanian Air Force. It combined a retractable undercarriage and enclosed cockpit with straightforward piston propulsion to prepare pilots for higher-performance aircraft. The type remained in Romanian service for several decades.
