History
IAR began developing a series of indigenous trainers in the late 1960s as Romania sought to equip its aero clubs and military training units with domestically produced aircraft. The 822 was the first in the sequence, first flying in 1970.
Variants
The IAR-822 was developed into the IAR-823 and subsequently the IAR-825; each mark represented an incremental improvement in performance and equipment.
