History

Entering service in October 1944, the K-4 was intended to standardise production and restore the Bf 109's competitive edge over late-mark Spitfires and P-51Ds. Numbers were limited and it arrived too late to alter the air war's outcome.

Variants

K-4 was the primary production variant; the K-6 and K-14 were experimental with heavier armament.

Where you'll see it

No confirmed airworthy K-4 exists; the type is represented by a handful of museum airframes and the ongoing restoration projects in Germany and the USA. The taller rudder is the field mark even in photographs.
