Sukhoi T-58
Sukhoi · Soviet Union · first flew 1958 · fighter
The Sukhoi T-58 was a Soviet experimental prototype interceptor that served as the direct basis for the production Su-15 Flagon, featuring twin turbojet engines and a delta-like swept-wing configuration.

WEFT is AircraftIQ's four-point recognition method — how it works.
Spot it by:
- Sukhoi prototype that led to the Su-15 interceptor
- Twin-engine swept-wing Soviet interceptor prototype
- Shoulder-mounted wings with ventral intakes
Twin-engine fuselage with two side-by-side afterburning jets, shoulder-set swept wings, and a pointed nose housing radar; closely resembles the Su-15 in overall configuration.
Specifications

History
Development began in the late 1950s as Sukhoi sought to produce a high-performance all-weather interceptor capable of engaging Western bombers at high speed and altitude; the T-58 flew in 1958 and its design evolved through successive prototypes into the Su-15.
Variants
The T-58 led directly to the T-58D and ultimately the production Su-15 (NATO: Flagon); the T-58VD added a separate lift-engine arrangement.
Where you'll see it
Never entered production; served purely as a development testbed for the Su-15 program within the Soviet Air Defence Forces development chain.
