History

As Japan expanded its network of ILS, VOR, and TACAN installations, specialised aircraft were needed to conduct regular flight inspection; the YS-11FC fulfilled this role from the 1970s onward.

Variants

The FC designation indicates flight-check equipment installation; it is one of many specialised JASDF YS-11 sub-variants alongside the EA, EB, and NT marks.

Where you'll see it

Operated by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force on flight inspection duties across Japanese airspace; rarely seen outside Japan.
