History
After the YS-11 entered civil service, the JASDF adopted several variants for military transport; the M designation indicates the primary cargo-carrying configuration serving Japanese domestic bases.
Variants
The YS-11M was followed by the YS-11M-A, an improved cargo version; together they formed the backbone of JASDF tactical airlift for decades.
Where you'll see it
Operated by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force for intra-Japan cargo and logistic missions; now largely retired in favour of the C-2.
