History

Recognising that its tactical transport and maritime aircraft needed trained navigators, the JASDF adapted the YS-11 with additional navigation consoles and equipment to conduct systematic navigator qualification training.

Variants

The NT (Navigator Trainer) is one of the most straightforward of the JASDF YS-11 variants, requiring mainly interior modifications rather than major electronic additions.

Where you'll see it

Operated by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force for aircrew training; based at training wings within Japan.
