WEFT is AircraftIQ's four-point recognition method — how it works.
Spot it by:
- Shoulder-wing sailplane of carbon-fibre composite with a very high aspect ratio 18 m wing
- Swept winglets on the wing-tips and full-span slotted flaperons
- T-tail using the tail unit of the Schleicher ASH 26, and a retractable mono-wheel undercarriage
A slender shoulder-wing glider with a pod cockpit, a minimal fuselage cross-section, winglets and a T-tail.
Specifications
- The Akaflieg Braunschweig SB-14 has a length of 6.95 m (23 ft).
- It has a wingspan of 18 m (59 ft).
- Its maximum speed is 272 km/h (169 mph).
- Typical crew: 1.

History
It was designed to minimalist principles, reducing wetted area, and used the ASH 26 tail unit as an economy measure. Flight testing began on 17 January 2003.
Variants
Only one example of this type was built.
Where you'll see it
Flight testing revealed very promising performance, which was optimised with various aerodynamic refinements. The preliminary figures gave a glide ratio of about 50:1.
